Figure 8. Population Density, 1994 Most of the dramatic postwar changes in the size and location of the Greek population had ended by 1990. Birth rates are low in Greece, as in the rest of Europe, and the average age of the population is expected to continue rising in the foreseeable future. Emigration, a traditional part of Greece's demographic pattern, remains steady at a quite low level, but political events in Albania and the former Soviet Union have posed serious dilemmas in immigration policy.
