THUS Mission Statement

Ecumenical Patriarch Endorses and Supports THUS

• THUS, a grass roots organization, is dedicated to the reconciliation of Greeks and Turks, especially at the government level, through peaceful means and, ultimately, the facilitation of their union through the European Union.
  
  To achieve its goals, THUS will engage in the following activities:
  
  
• Recruitment of volunteers from the Greek and Turkish ethnic communities in Turkey, Greece and around the world, to include people from all walks of life, including the professions.
  
  
• The organizing of educational, cultural, political, scientific and other activities with participants from both communities in Greece, Turkey and Cyprus.
  
  
• The preparation and distribution of inter-ethnic audiovisual materials to schools in those countries.
  
  
• Publicity and public relations to promote THUS goals.
  
  
• Analysis of the causes of feelings of hostility between Greeks and Turks and recommendations for their alleviation.
  
  
• Active lobbying of the Turkish, Greek and Cypriot governments to encourage contacts with each other and to gain support for THUS activities. Ultimately, THUS would like to see the governments commit to spending a portion of their annual defense budgets to the promotion of inter-ethnic activities
