Greek manufacturing, and industrial activity in general, underwent great expansion in the 1960s, but the sector has been slowing ever since and has virtually stagnated in the early to mid1990s . In view of the importance of the industrial sector in a country of medium-level development such as Greece, experts consider this current inertia one of the root causes of the country's economic problems.
